It is not enough that they declare that they are willing to promote your business. Only when they go out to encourage others to beat a path to your door do they demonstrate that they have become engaged.

Employee Engagement results in the retention and attraction of the most talented employees. It happens only when the relationships you build with your customers are so superior. These employees commit themselves to delivering ever-better goods and services to your customers at ever decreasing cost so that your engaged customers are proud and confident to act as advocates for your business.

Top Team Engagement is your first priority. You will recognnise that it has happened when every member of your top team works daily to empower your superior employees to construct top quality relationships with worthwhile customers that will lead to growing customer engagement. Each of your Board members positively demonstrates being a role model in espousing the importance of your customers who, together with engaged employees, form the greatest sales team on the planet.

Why are these definitions important? Humpty reminds you that it has been shown in many studies that, for organisations that have a good proportion of “Engaged Customers” exactly as defined above, there is a proven correlation between that measurement and their ongoing long term success. Simply put, engaged customers help you build your business. However, if you are loose in your definition of “Customer Engagement” (as many of your competitors are) then you may think that good ‘Customer Satisfaction Index’ score will do. It won’t. Evidence shows that customers who are only ‘Satisfied’ are fickle. They churn rapidly & expensively. You have a lot more to do.

So where are you on the trail to the Holy Grail of continuing sales success? How can you measure your customer relationship using the Customer Engagement Index and so see where you are? From that measurement how do you build a realistic improvement plan? What understanding do you need to build into every level of your organisation to implant a true Customer Engagement’ culture?

Big questions that this single article cannot answer, but look out for future ones that will explore this area. Meanwhile here are a couple of pointers.

The measurement tool you seek must be a dynamic tool that first assesses and then helps you to build engagement in the key parts of your business. It should exhibit reliability and impartiality. It should research-based, accurate, economical, valid and reliable. Now I’m sure you’ve heard of the teaching known as “The Secret.” The concept is, by using this “secret,” which is “The Law of Attraction,” you can attract anything you want in your life: more money, a bigger house, more business, the perfect mate, literally anything you want!

While the teachings conveyed about the Law of Attraction from worldly teachers contain many truths, they also contain some contradictory ideas to the Word of God. For example, I personally disagree with the notion that a person can have just anything. The reason being, we were born with different strengths, skills, and talents that lend themselves to our individual abilities to acquire the things we desire.

God made us all unique, with a purpose, and with a certain mission to fulfill His will. It isn’t all about us! Now does that mean the Law of Attraction should be ignored? Is it all just a bunch of garbage for the Christian? Absolutely not! The Law of Attraction is a biblical concept.

Once we understand the proper mechanics and the proper use of the law of attraction and discuss it within the church, we should refer to it as the “biblical law of attraction” simply that there may be no misunderstanding. Now, the Biblical Law of Attraction and God’s will can, and should work together in your life. Let me clarify it from a biblical perspective in the following three points:

1. The Worldly Law of Attraction and the Believer in Christ

The worldly teaching of the Law of Attraction has brought much confusion to the believer in Christ for one very good reason: It leaves out the entire concept of God’s will! If you’ve been trying to use the Biblical Law of Attraction in the way the worldly teachers teach it, you’ll soon find yourself feeling far from God!

2. Why the Basic Concept of the Law of Attraction Works for Everyone

Like I said previously, the Law of Attraction is a biblical concept and a Godly principle. It’s just that the worldly teaching of it is not Godly. It has distorted biblical references by leaving Jesus out of the equation, thereby perverting the Word of God to suit its own purposes.

3. The Basic Concept of the Law of Attraction and God’s Will

Jesus’ teaching on the Biblical Law of Attraction deals with our beliefs, thoughts, words and actions. The worldly teachers of the Law of Attraction teach that our words and thoughts are enough, like there’s some sort of magic in what we request from, who they call, the “Universe.”

God is interested in our “issues,” and He wants a relationship with us more than anything else. He wants our heart; therefore it grieves Him when we chase after selfish ambitions instead of Him.

So, how should one use the Biblical Law of Attraction? The answer is, to glorify God in his or her life. Not merely to obtain selfish ambitions.

Who is your customer? As a salesperson, are you trained to sell products and services to customers, or are you trained to be the customer’s friend?

Today’s shoppers are seeking quality, well priced merchandise. Importantly, they want to buy it from knowledgeable, courteous people whom they may call friends. Indubitably, today’s most successful retailers train their people many traits to be the best, but the most important is being the customer’s friend. The results are sales and return customers.

It’s appalling to shop a retail store and have a sales representative try to sell you merchandise for which they have limited or no knowledge. It is imperative that retailers teach all employees, not just the sales associates, company products, services, and policies. Otherwise, the customer locates another store.

Significantly, today’s best retailers are shopping their competitors on a weekly if not daily basis. If a company is to be The Best of The Best, it must know what the other guys are doing. This encompasses not only product and price but also sales knowledge and service. The companies, which do not acknowledge its competition, are not a valuable company.

In half-duplex mode, at a time only one end transmits data while other end receives. In addition, it is possible to perform error detection and request the sender to re-transmit information.

(i) Parallel Transmission.
(ii) Serial Transmission.

In parallel transmission, a group of bits of data flow at the same time (in parallel) through separate communication lines. It is very fast data transmission. The automobile traffic on a multi-lane highway is an example of parallel transmission.

In asynchronous transmission, data is transmitted one byte at a ‘time’. The data is transmitted character-by-character as the user types it on a keyboard. In this mode, data is not saved before sending.

An asynchronous line that is idle (not being used) is identified with a value 1, also known as mark state. This value is used by the communication devices to find whether the line is idle or free.

In asynchronous transmission, a special signal is sent by sender to the receiver before sending the message. It is known as start bit. A start bit has a value of 0, also called a space state. Thus, when the line switches from a value of 1 to a value of 0, the receiver is alerted for receiving the message. The asynchronous transmission is most commonly used by microcomputers.

Understanding nonverbal communication begins in the earliest stages of childhood. You see nonverbal communications all the time in daily life by people you do and don’t know. For instance, one can be questioned for standing or sitting too close to someone else. Also let me add, you must strongly study people that are skilled to deceive such as politicians, salesmen and actors or actresses.

In the recent weeks I have been paying closer attention and have noticed many things that I wouldn’t have noticed a couple of weeks ago, pertaining to chapter six. The dictionary definition of ambiguous is: (adj. open to various interpretations; having a double meaning.) By reading between the lines I can safely say that all nonverbal communications can be ambiguous. Interpretation by male or female, old or young, good mood or bad mood, could all possibly warrant uncertain responses and faulty analysis.

In conclusion, gestures (illustrators, emblems, adaptors,) and other types of nonverbal communications are a basic part of our complicated society. Animals, on one hand, can communicate what they want or the mood they’re in just by something they do, because this nonverbal communication is less complex, on the other hand, in our society, intelligence, along with gestures, body orientation, posture, and verbal communication, inhibits our understanding of communications.

* Be Silent And Let Your Child Voice Their Opinion

Listening is a learned skill and often times, a bit of a challenge for some parents. It’s so very important to suppress from being the advisor and let your children express their feelings and voice their frustrations to you. And it should be encouraged. Ask them what’s on their minds. Ask them what’s frustrating them. Let them talk and YOU be the listener. This is a crucial part of building good parent and child communication skills. If you let yourself be the sounding board rather than being the protector or advisor…your child will be much more compliant to accepting your advise when it’s the appropriate time to give it. This also is a step in the right direction to establishing a good relationship with your child.

* Practice Good Eye Contact With Your Children

Whether you are speaking or listening to your child, it is always important to form eye contact with them. Let them know you have your child’s undivided attention by looking into their eyes rather than looking away. For example: If you are glancing out the window, or looking at your watch, or even staring across the room…your child will sense that you are not fully listening. Get down on their level if you have to and really let your child know they have your full attention. In doing so, you will also be teaching them to express themselves more efficiently when they are adults.

* Manner Of Speaking

Your tone of voice is something that your child hears from infancy. An infant can sense when you are happy, sad, mad, frightened…not just from the tone of your voice but from your touch as well. Verbal communication expands beyond words. When you’re speaking to your child…speak gently and without anger. Speak firmly when you need to, but not with an angry voice. You will find that your child will listen more intently and favorably when speaking in a softer voice.

Spending time with your child is essential for their security and well being and is also a key element of communication. Children need love and attention. It is imperative for their self-esteem.

Try and schedule a weekly meeting or a “talk time” with your children. You can make this a special family night just to sit with them and discuss anything that may be upsetting them. Or as a whole, what is going on in their lives, at school or just in general. In addition, you can also use your family meal time to sit and talk. This will give you a chance to gather information and sense if anything is bothering your children, and if anything needs to be addressed. The idea is to always keep the lines of communication open. Be attentive and make sure you constantly show your love and compassion.

As a parent, I often played the role of protector and was constantly giving advice and voicing MY opinion. I could have listened more. French Property Law – A Question Answered

My wife and I are considering buying a property in France. We both have children from a previous marriage. What things should we be considering when we buy?

There are two main issues you should consider – succession and inheritance tax. Many couples dont and end up incurring costs because they have to restructure their affairs so they can meet their objectives. Dont get swept along by fulfilling your dream of owning a property in France without considering these important points early on.

How you buy the property between you will dictate what will happen when one of you dies. Legal advice on your specific circumstances is recommended. Each case is different – its not a matter of one size fits all.

The first step is to identify who you want to own, and have use of, the property on each death. Youd need to look at this in the round, taking into account how the rest of your estate is to be distributed on death. You should then consider whether you will be restricted by law in what you want to achieve.

French law will apply to the succession of the property on the death of an owner. Protected heirs (known as hritiers rservataires) have fixed inheritance rights to a minimum portion of your estate which is governed by French law. Protected heirs are usually your children. You may be surprised to know that a surviving spouse has only limited protection under French law. In some circumstances other family members may have inheritance rights – but in your case we are concerned about you, your wife and your children.

There are two forms of joint outright ownership of property – tontine and indivision. The default position is indivision in equal shares. If you want to reflect unequal contributions in the purchase deed its important to raise this with your legal adviser. If you own en indivision, on each of your deaths French law will dictate who is to inherit your portion of the property. For example, if you die before your wife, your children will have inheritance rights in respect of your share, leading to joint ownership with your wife. Youll need to think about whether this is likely to cause any problems for any of them. Might there be an issue if your wife remarries, wants to occupy the property permanently, wants to sell, or doesnt have a good relationship with your children? Also, would the divorce or financial difficulties of a child have an adverse impact on your wifes interest in the property?

Buying a property en tontine involves a system of automatic survivorship. Its a contractual arrangement between you whereby the last surviving owner is deemed to have been the sole owner from your purchase. This means that if you die before your wife, your childrens inheritance rights are effectively overridden and the property passes into the sole ownership of your wife. You can only insert the tontine clause at the time of purchase so you must decide whether or not this options for you before you buy.

Its important to understand the consequences of tontine ownership – particularly as it could lead to you disinheriting your children. Step-children have no statutory inheritance rights under French law in respect of a step-parents estate so if you were to die before your wife and she becomes the sole owner of the property because you had a tontine clause, on your wifes subsequent death your own children will not be hritiers rservataires.

Your legal adviser should clarify all the consequences of tontine ownership and the circumstances in which an attack could be made on the tontine clause. For example, an argument could arise over the validity of the clause if you and your wife didnt make equal contributions to the purchase price, saying you have used the tontine clause to disguise a gift made from one to the other.

Another option is to sign a change of matrimonial property regime deed. You can have a system of community of assets (known as a communaut universelle) which has a similar effect to the tontine clause in that it gives automatic survivorship but would also apply to any future property purchased in France as well as the one youre intending to buy now. On your death, your wife would become the sole owner of the property. However, because your children are of a previous relationship they would have the opportunity to claim the portion of your estate that they would otherwise be entitled to under French law had you not signed the matrimonial property regime deed.

French succession law applies to the distribution of the French property on death because it is an immovable asset located in France. Its possible to change the asset in your estate to a movable asset, and assuming that you intend to retain your domicile of England and Wales (if this is your domicile) then English succession law would apply to the distribution of that asset – and allow you to distribute it to whoever you choose. You would buy the property through a company structure – for example via a French SCI (Socit Civile Immobilire) and each subscribe cash in return for a shareholding in the company which then uses the cash to buy the property. The asset in your estate is a shareholding which could avoid the application of French inheritance law but it wont avoid French inheritance law applying, though.

Another option is to own the property in one name only – but youd need to give careful thought to the consequences of doing this and whether it will achieve your objectives as to the distribution on the owners death.

Once youve worked out the ownership option that best suit you, youll need to think about how French inheritance tax law will apply.

French inheritance tax is calculated by reference to your beneficiaries and the tax is payable by the beneficiaries rather than coming out of the estate. Each beneficiary has a nil rate band allowance and the amount depends on the relationship of the beneficiary to the deceased person. Your children will have a nil rate band allowance of 156,974 (all figures here are for 2010) whereas stepchildren inheriting direct from you will only have an allowance of 1,570. The rate of tax for your children is calculated on a scale from 5% to 40%. A flat rate of 60% applies for stepchildren. Its important to understand how inheritance tax law will apply because you may be able to structure your affairs to minimise the tax bill for your beneficiaries.

There is a full exemption on transfers on death between spouses.

You should also think about your Wills at the time of purchase. If you dont have a Will covering the distribution of a French property then your wife would only be entitled to receive a one quarter share of your interest in the property. If its covered by a Will you can increase the interest she gets by giving her a choice from a number of inheritance options, one being to take a life interest an usufruit over your share. This can be particularly helpful because it can give her exclusive occupation of the property while avoiding a 60% tax rate on a transfer from step-parent to stepchild – and it could help to achieve equality of inheritance of the property between the children (for example, if you each have two children.) Its essential to get advice on the pros and cons of taking an usufruit, though.
Although a Will in your home country may be recognised in France, it cannot override the application of French succession law and in many circumstances it may be preferable to have a separate French Will.

Your legal adviser should guide you on the laws of both your home country and of France to enable you to structure your affairs to your best advantage.

If a worker showed up late to work, was in any way disorderly, or tried to unionize, he or she could be fired. Even children were hired and forced to work long hours in unhealthy environments.

And despite poor working conditions, long hours of arduous labor, and low wages, factory employees had nowhere else to go because most places of employment were the same. These difficulties were most often experienced by immigrants and the poor, and because they had no way to improve their situation, these workers had no choice but to work in these factories and other similar places.

Eventually, in the early twentieth century, the government passed a series of labor laws that helped rectify the poor working situation. These laws established minimum wages, work environment regulations, and union rights. And throughout the century, more laws were periodically passed that made illegal any discrimination (based on gender, religion, age, and so on) against employees.

Because of the sufferings of thousands in those prior years, employees today enjoy the benefits of being guaranteed certain rights. Unfortunately, some employers are still found guilty of disobeying these employee-protection laws.

Today, the most common breach of employee rights is discrimination. Some employers may even inadvertently discriminate against employees based on age, gender, race, religion, or disability. But inadvertent or not, discrimination in the workplace is illegal. One of the only exceptions is discriminating against disability. If a job cannot be performed with reasonable accommodation by a person with a disability, the employer retains the right to not hire that person. Of course what is considered “reasonable” is something of a gray area, but the exception is meant to ensure that employers aren’t forced to hire someone who can’t perform the job.

Another common type of discrimination is based on age. Many have the misconception that someone who is older may not be as good a worker as someone who is young. However, if an elderly person meets all of the requirements of job, he or she must be seriously considered on equal footing with other candidates.

In regards to the payroll, gender discrimination is quite common. In general, women are still paid less than men for performing the same jobs. Although this disparity in pay is becoming smaller and is not as bad as it was just a few decades ago, in general, women are still paid less. And although discrimination and harassment are illegal, when people take legal action against their employers on the basis of discrimination, feelings of tension or anger may exist between the two parties. Customer loyalty programs were first implemented on a wide scale basis by S&H Green Stamps in the 1930s. Consumer purchases were rewarded with stamps which could be redeemed for products. In the decades since, companies of all sizes have sought to replicate the success of the Green Stamps project. By creating compelling promotional incentives, businesses can trigger a response within their customer base.

There is promotional risk involved. Potential cost overruns, incentives which fail to trigger the intended response, and poor audience targeting threaten to impede the success of any customer loyalty program. As a result, it may fail to generate the anticipated level of consumer response.

Inject Perceived Value into Customer Loyalty Programs

One of the interesting psychological effects of a customer loyalty program is the tendency for consumers to value the promotional incentive outside the bounds of monetary value. To illustrate, let’s return to our coffee shop example. In the case of a free cup of coffee, it is reasonable to assume the incentive has a monetary value of $2. However, a $2 rebate offered after 10 purchases would be unlikely to generate an increase in business. Customers are more inclined to consider the “value” of the free coffee based upon the experience they anticipate while enjoying it.

This works to a company’s advantage. Customer loyalty programs can be designed to deliver a high perceived value to consumers while yielding a respectable ROI for the business.

Youre in for a treat, because today I have for you a unique email session with the most important tips, tools and techniques you need to make your emails appear both friendly and professional. 1. Write a Subject Line That Pops
The subject line is your first impression in email communication so make sure your first impression is personal and attention-getting. By far, the most common subject line in email responses to customers is: Re: customer web inquiry. Sure, its accurate, but what a waste of opportunity to connect with customers and make your communication memorable.

You can immediately capture your customers attention by doing 2 simple things with your subject lines: (1) Using the customers name in the subject line (whenever possible) and (2) inserting a short phrase that speaks to the customers issue. Heres what I mean:

Joe, the lawn mower manual you requested is attached.
Lynn, your replacement widget will ship tomorrow.
Lauren, here are tips to help maintain your garden.

Personalize your emails and theyll be read before anything else in the customers inbox. I guarantee it. Now, when you personalize subject lines be sure to keep it short. Subject lines should be no more than 60 characters. Its just fine to use fragments in subject lines as long as youre clear.

2. Thank the customer for the email and/or complaint
A lot of companies begin complaint response letters with: We have received your email dated Dont do this. The fact that youre responding to the email is irrefutable proof that you have received the customers letter. Instead of wasting words, immediately go into a response designed to restore the customers confidence and regain their goodwill.
My favorite approach to beginning a complaint letter is to begin by expressing appreciation for the feedback. Here are some ways to express appreciation for customer feedback:

Thank you for taking the time to write to us.

Thank you for your email. We appreciate customers who let us know when things arent right.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write to us. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify what we think has happened. (This is ideal for a response letter to a customer who is actually responsible for the error or when you cannot honor the customers request for a refund or exchange.)

3. Make Your Email Look Good
Expert copy writer, Joe Vitale, says that visual attractiveness accounts for 70% of your letter’s impact. You need to use short sentences, short paragraphs, and bulleted points. (It should go without saying that looking good includes clicking the spell-check and grammar-check buttons, avoiding jargon, and not abbreviating.)

4. Quickly Get to the Point
Customers await responses from companies with great anticipationso quickly get to the point and when possible, be brief. Dont waste words. Simply express appreciation for the feedback, apologize for the problem and quickly offer your resolution strategy or explanation.

5. Respect Your Customer by Answering ALL of Her Questions
Answer ALL questions this is a BIG one. Customers find it frustrating to get an incomplete response from the company. Carefully read and re read the customers email to ensure you have captured every issue and make sure you respond to each of the issues.

6. Dont Use Email to Give a Customer Bad News
Tim Sanders, best-selling author and former Yahoo! Executive, said recently in his newsletter: At Yahoo!, I always told my folks, Email is for saying yes and for exchanging information. If you want to say no, criticize or get into an emotionally charged issue, pick up the phone or do it in person. Email fails to communicate your intentions, so it usually looks pretty insensitive.

Certainly, its going to make more time and effort on your part to pick up the phone and call a customer to communicate bad news, but you really need to make the sacrifice.

Speaking to the customer by phone gives you the opportunity to establish rapport, re-build trust, offer alternatives, or to offer a sincere and unreserved apology. Email communication is so vulnerable to miscommunication and you are at great risk for losing the customer when you convey bad news electronically without the opportunity to truly defend your position.

7. Add a P.S.
Im about to let you in on a secret that is apparently unknown to most companies: Studies show that the postscript is the most often read and the first read portion of any letter. Joe Vitale, author of Hypnotic Marketing, encourages his readers to always use a P.S. and says Your P.S. is your chance to state your strongest point, or offer your guarantee, or to mention just how wonderful your product is.
